Wed, 14 Mar 2007 06:25
DynDNS Administrators have taken steps neccessary to further mitigate the attacks being launched upon members.dyndns.org. These changes should help to return members.dyndns.org to reasonable level of service. DynDNS is continuing to work round-the-clock to determine the source and root cause of this attack.
For customers experiencing client update problems, we simply request that you retry your update. Our update system will process your requests as quickly as possible.
Emergency Upgrades/DDoS Attack on members.dyndns.org
Wed, 14 Mar 2007 02:38
As an update to our previous post regarding the DDoS on members.dyndns.org, we are planning to make some modifications to our infrastructure this evening during an emergency upgrade period. During this time, the update interface, website, and WebHop services will be unavailable. This period will begin at 4:00 UTC on March 14 and will last for two hours. During this entire time, we continue to answer DNS queries normally.
DDoS Attack on members.dyndns.org
Sat, 10 Mar 2007 22:55
As of March 9th, 17:00 UTC, members.dyndns.org has been subject to a number of Distributed Denial of Service attacks. DynDNS Administrators have been taking a number of steps to try to mitigate and minimize the impact of the attack. As of March 10th, 17:00 UTC, steps were taken to isolate our main website, http://www.dyndns.com, out of the line of fire of the attack. We're continuing to analyze and evaluate the situation, however, customers may experience periods where update clients are unable to update DNS hostnames. Customers should simply re-try their update.
We'll continue to post updates to this situation as they become available.
Website Maintenance Complete

Short Website Maintenance
Mon, 26 Feb 2007 16:05
On February 27, 2007 at 03:00h UTC, the account management section of our website will be closed for a quick software upgrade. During this time, logged in users will be directed to our maintenance page, informing them that we are currently performing maintenance. All other portions of our website will be available. Host updates, MailHop, Network Monitoring, and other services will be unaffected by this short maintenance.
DynDNS Phone Support and Sales Availability
Wed, 14 Feb 2007 10:54
Due to the large snow system moving through the Northeast at this time, DynDNS is mostly working from home today and we are not able to answer phone calls live. You can reach us by email as usual or just leave a message for us and we will call you back.
Offline URL Redirection service restored

Massive DDoS against Offline URL redirection service
Sun, 04 Feb 2007 01:12
On February 4th, at approximately 3:30 UTC, a massive distributed denial of service attack was launched against our Offline URL redirection service. The attack was large enough to take our Boston location offline. As of 4:00 UTC, DynDNS administrators filtered the attack, but to do so, they took Offline URL redirection services out of service. This immediately stabilized connectivity to our Boston location. Offline URL redirection is now working in limited capacity; extensive filtering may cause intermittent failures of offline redirection. DynDNS Administrators continue to refine the approach to mitigating the attack. Anyone with information related to this attack is encouraged to contact [email protected].
ns1.dyndns.org Hardware Failure
Sun, 28 Jan 2007 14:05
On January 27th, at approximately 17:00 UTC, ns1.dyndns.org suffered a major hard drive failure. While our systems have been designed to specifically guard against this, the physical hardware providing this redundancy failed. This had a domino effect through other DynDNS systems, including our update system, WebHop, MyWebHop, Offline, and our website http://www.dyndns.com. These systems have been intermittently available through the remainder of the afternoon as a result.
As of 23:30 UTC, all systems were stabilized. The update system, WebHop, MyWebHop, Offline, and the website began to function normally as of that time. Other DynDNS services, including Custom DNS, Secondary DNS, MailHop, Recursive DNS, and Network Monitoring were not impacted by this incident. We are evaluating all of the causal factors that came into play with this incident and will be taking steps to prevent further incidents of this scale.
MailHop Forward Problems Resolved
Tue, 16 Jan 2007 10:27
At 05:00 UTC, DynDNS Administrators finished working with att.net and worldnet.att.net to alleviate e-mail delivery problems for MailHop Forward destinations on these domains. All DynDNS services are now functioning normally.
MailHop Forward problems with att.net and worldnet.att.net addresses
Mon, 15 Jan 2007 10:52
On Sunday, January 14th, at 13:00 UTC, DynDNS Administrators became aware of e-mail delivery problems for MailHop Forward destinations at att.net and worldnet.att.net e-mail addresses. DynDNS has setup a work-around to temporarily alleviate the problem, and is also working closely with att.net administrators to correct the situation.
Database Outage
Sat, 06 Jan 2007 14:46
Redirection services were slow or unresponsive due to a database issue. DynDNS Administrators resolved the issue within 25 minutes. At this time, all systems have returned to normal operation. A number of planned upgrades in the new year are being implemented to isolate the impact of future issues.
Database Outage
Tue, 19 Dec 2006 19:55
At approximately 23:06 UTC, the DynDNS website, members.dyndns.org, MailHop Outbound, and Web Redirection services went offline due to a database outage. DynDNS Administrators quickly located the affected database server and reloaded it to get all services operational again. However, to ensure data integrity across all DynDNS systems, the administrators had to again block database access for a period of 20 minutes starting at 00:15 UTC to perform appropriate data consistency checks. At this time, all systems have returned to normal operation. As always, DynDNS is taking the steps neccessary to isolate this problem and to ensure it does not happen again.
London Facility Online
Fri, 15 Dec 2006 06:47
At 11:41 UTC, our London facility returned to full functionality. Overnight, our Internet Service Provider in London swapped the neccessary hardware on their end to correct the issues with our services. ns4.dyndns.org and ns4.mydyndns.org are now fully functional; no DNS resolution problems occured during this time, as DNS queries were answered by our other functioning sites.
London Facility Offline
Thu, 14 Dec 2006 23:14
At approximately 20:33 UTC, our London Internet Service Provider (ISP) experienced a network failure causing our London facility to go offline. This impacts ns4.dyndns.org and ns4.mydyndns.org, however there has been no DNS resolution impact; our other sites automatically assumed the DNS query load. We are working with our ISP extensively to manage the situation and return our London site to full functionality as quickly as possible.
